Oops. I didn't think of that when I wrote my long message about the
history of the Florilegium. Yes, the original name I used for the files
was the Rialto Files. Many folks called it the Rialto Archive, but since
it was only a selection (and there has always been quite a bit of chaff
in the Rialto, along with the grains of wheat), I never liked that name.

Somewhere back in 96 or 97, I started using the Florilegium name since
more and more of the information was coming from the various mail lists
and submitted articles and not just from the Rialto (rec.org.sca)
newsgroup.

It has never been the Rialto's FAQ. That is a monthly file that is
posted every month(?) or so, in four parts. It hasn't changed much
for the past several years.

I have a copy of this FAQ in the NEWCOMERS section as:
SCA-Rialto-FAQ (51K) 6/ 2/00 SCA FAQ list from the Rialto (rec.org.sca).

On yes, one of the reasons I started the Florilegium was that the same
simple questions were being asked over and over on the Rialto. One hope
was that if folks had somewhere to go to get these simple questions
answered maybe the discussions could get on to the more complicated
stuff. I was also afraid that the experienced folks would get tired
of answering the same questions over and over and would leave. So
I thought an available resource might help prevent this burnout.

And I guess I have a similar concern here. When I mention a file, I
don't really want to stiffle a conversation. Often, new things come
up even when old subjects get brought up again.

And I'm very proud when I see from a question or comment that someone
has already checked the Florilegium and is asking a question to
clarify the information in a file or trying to fill in a blank that
is there in the information in the files. Gradually, bit by bit the
information and referances mentioned get better and better.

Ok. Put the crossbow down. Stefan's getting down from the pulpit. :-)
