SC - Porridger? (probably OOP)

Can anyone tell me what a "porridger" is used for?  I'm not
sure of the spelling.  It's a small bowl with a flat handle
- -- a colleague of mine saw some at Williamsburg, asked me
about them, and now I'm curious, too.  So I thought, surely
with all the wise guys, I mean, knowledgable individuals on
this list, someone will know.
