Yogurt in any form dos not taste anything like clotted ream in any way.

No. Creme fraiche does not taste anything like clotted cream oin any way.

Neither of these products comes remotely close to the distinctive flavor nor 
do they have a texture which is similar to clotted cream.

Suitable substitutes really do not exist. As with many recipes it would be a 
far better course of action to  simply choose a recipe which does not use the 
ingredient or make your own which, BTW, is perfectly safe to eat despite the 
overreactive beliefs of some ludicrously fastideous people. Using bacteria to 
make food products is common, has always been common and is perfectly safe 
when instructions are followed. Making clotted cream is no more unsafe than 
making aged cheeses, yogurt, saurkraut or dill picles.
