It's not bland, and it is rich.  I thought I'd had northern Indian food - that's
what a friend told me her mother cooked.  But, it wasn't very different from
the southern Indian food in terms of spicing.  That is what I was comparing
it to.  I guess I have another cuisine to seek out now - Northern Indian!
