Any Asian shops in your area?

They will have the big pearl stuff, whatever we want to call it. They 
might not be able to answer your question over the phone, but it's 
usually not hard to find. You are more likely to find it in a Thai or 
Vietnamese shop, but i bet Chinese shops have it, and Indian or 
Pakistani shops might also have it, although i haven't look for it 
there.

I have a bag of it in my cupboard that is Thai in origin and it is 
called Tapioca Pearl. Label says: Ingredients: tapioca. 1 lb. cost me 
59 cents several years ago. There's another name for it at the top, i 
think it's Vietnamese, but might be Chinese: Bot Bang.

I hope this helps. It isn't that hard to get. Just ask for Pearl 
Tapioca or Tapioca Pearls.
