SC - Cape Breton Pork Pies

I just got this recipe from a person in Canada.  It's not period, but I 
thought you'd enjoy it.

 Cape Breton Pork Pies (date tarts)
 
 1/2 lb. butter
 2 cups flour
 4 tbsp. icing sugar
 
 filling:
 2 cups dates
 1 cup water
 1 1/4 cup brown sugar
 1 tbsp. lemon juice or lemon flavouring
 
 maple-flavoured icing
 
 Mix butter, flour and icing sugar, and press into small tart pans.  Bake at 
 350 degrees until brown (or you could cheat like I do and by the 
 Tenderflake tarts shells!)
 
 Cook filling mixture together until smooth.  Cool.  Fill shells.  Put a 
 drop of maple-flavoured icing on top.
