Actually the LA Farmers' Market was already a tourist attraction in 
the 1950's. But it can still be fun. When last i was living in LA in 
the 1980's, there was a big indoor market downtown, frequented mostly 
by Latino Americans which was a truer farmers' market. If it's still 
there, i bet they're REALLY got a good selection of chilis and 
tropical fruits to make your own sauce.
