Yes, but the American ginseng is a different species, Panax quinquefolius.
The Asian type is Panax ginseng.

I believe all species of buckwheat are native to Northeast Asia or possibly
Western China and Tibet. It is mentioned in written Chinese records from the
5th century AD onwards and came to Eastern Europe in the Middle Ages.
