The animal was alive. It was guillotined. The 47 pounds was usable meat from 
the thighs. There was at least 8 lb. of meat on the neck and a couple of 
pounds on the ribcage. If you include the weight of the bones, the cost was 
around a dollar a pound for the whole bird. The farmer also threw in the 
liver which wholesales for 12 dollars a pound. All in all it was cheaper than 
any other meat available except chicken legs and thighs and even they were at 
the most only a couple of cents cheaper per pound and had skin and bones on 
them.
