Way back in AS XXII or XXIII, when the incipient shire of Briaroak held
it's first feast, dubbed the Briaroak Birl, the menu was 'siege' fare,
including 'crow' (chicken) and 'rat on a stick' (gingerbread formed into
tasty rodents, with sticks for tails). The feast was attended by no less
than His Leonine Majesty, Steingrim Stallari, king of An Tir, having
travelled to this southern reach of his Kingdom. The first course
resulted in the demise of the taster to the king, but was quickly filled
by a 'latecomer' who had lost his feast ticket and could not prove he
had paid, but 'volunteered' to replace the previous taster. Is _was_ the
only _vacant_ seat in the hall.... Alas, the final course did much the
same to him. Short of any willing or slow volunteers, his Majesty did
the royal Hands lay upon the corpse of the second taster, causing said
corpse to come to life. And there was much rejoicing....
