Yes, several methods have been discussed here to minimize the turnip/bitter
taste of turnips, including using just small turnips. But so far, I've
not tasted a turnip dish, including "armored turnips" that didn't taste bitter.

No one has answered the main question of my message, though. I was looking
for suggestions on how to select the best fruits and vegetables in the
loose produce stacks at the grocery or farmer's market.
