I'll admit it, i'm just a city hick.
I have paid visits to dairy farms in Pennsylvania (Mennonite) and
Wisconsin (since i'm originally from Chicago, although i never met
Mrs. O'Leary's cow). But i wouldn't know one milking from another,
although i do have an idea of which end of the cow to milk and i can
tell the difference between cows, bulls, and steers :-)
Having breastfed a child i do know a little about colostrum. It's
very sweet, well, at least human colostrum is.
But i still have no idea of where to find either beestings or third
milking after first feeding here in an urban environment, and i'm
still not getting a good idea for a substitute, if one cannot find
either of the above.
Any of you raised-on-or-near-a-dairy folk want to give a few clues?
