Limits and preregistrations also serve the purpose of elevating the feast
experience to a special status, something to be desired. It provided
incentive to those who are procrastinators and allows the cook to have a
complete view of his/her needs a couple of weeks in advance. For instance, if
you have room for 125 onboard you publish a limit of 100 onboard. The other
20 go to royals who might show at the last minute and any remaining seats and
cancellations are doled out on a first come/first served basis from a waiting
list compiled at the Troll. With several hundred people attending any given
event, preregistration becomes the only fair way to assure folks a seat in
the hall, a bunk house spot or a cabin space.
