That depends. Using copyrighted material for educational purposes is usually
permitted. Using copyrighted material for personal use is permitted. Using
copyrighted material for commercial purposes is not permitted without
permission. Individual recipes are formulas and are not covered although
collections of individually copyrighted recipes are covered.

Copyright law is very hazy with respect to recipes in general and oftentimes
the rewording of the process of using the formula is enough to bypass it. The
addition of an ingredient and different formatting also makes it a 'new'
creation. A good source for answers to recipe copyright are the LLewelyn
Press lawyers. The value of any individual recipe is usually $5.00 and seldom
if ever would any author sue over $5.00. However, in the interest of fair
play and common courtesy, it is always wise to seek permission before
publishing someone else's recipe.

Works such as Sabrina's Cookbook are well within copyright law. But again,
the question of putting them on noncommercial websites seems to fall well
within the educational purposes clause, IMO.

(who doesn't care a single iota if others publish his recipes so long as he
is given credit. It saves on publishing them himself. :-))
