Given the period price of spices in general and the annual income of the 
average non-wealthy medieval person, I would opine that most spices were well 
within the range of the average medieval person much as they are today. IIRC, 
the ratio of price to income is not much different then than now. 
Historically, prices have pretty much remained the same in relation to 
average income dependent on the time and respective famines/diseases/wars.
