Hi,
    I think that the difference in opinions of the mood at an SCA event is like
the difference in opinion between spouses at an office Christmas party.   The
spouse that knows everyone at the party had a vastly different experience than
the one who know almost no one at the party.   Same people, same place and same
time but not at all the same party for both.
