Aluminium reacts rather strongly with strong bases (for spectacular,
destructive, and hazardous effects put sodium hydroxide in an aluminium
bowl and add water).

Stainless steel is not non-reactive. Perhaps under cooking conditions,
but it is unusable in many laboratories since it will not stand up to
it.

As to the Calaphon stuff; never seen it so I can't comment. I tend to
use either cast iron or stainless steel. Dependable and not too
expensive.
