Always check the knives in resale shops and rummage sales as in among the
trash you can find treasure.  I've scored three quality Henkels and a "Wear
Ever" Professional chef's knife in the last 5 years, total cost under
$20.00.  One of the Henkels was their long carver which retails for over
$65.00.   It was new and still the box.  While you are at it if you have the
time check out the silver plate dinner ware, sometimes you can find nice
pieces of "german silver" or even a misplaced piece of sterling.   Even if
the piece of sterling is battered the price is likely to be well below melt
down.
