Are you speaking of Atar Bakhtar, the one who has three books on blademaking?
Yes, it would be hard to find someone more expert. There are a number
of his messages and info on his books in this file in the CRAFTS
section of the Florilegium:
bladesmithing-msg (49K)  4/ 5/00    Steel sources, making knives and swords.
