Definition, please? SFAIK, there is no such animal but it is merely a phrase 
bandied about to justify not serving real historical food. Spicy? Thai, 
Chinese, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Indian and Spanish come immediately to 
mind. Unusual spicing? Same cuisine's as before. Unusual ingredients? Same 
thing. Do you mean lower class and lower middle class American cuisine? If so 
that is really not an issue since their tastes seldom extend beyond 
Campbell's soup and pizza.
