Hi.  Yes, pokeweed is poisonois when it is mature and in fruit but nice when 
eaten young.  You can put it in salat or saute' it with a little fatback and 
vinegar like any greens.  When it "fruits" leave it be unless of course you 
what to use the ripe berries for dying.  Then handle with rubber or plastice 
gloves cuz it with dye anything it comes in contact with.  The Indians and 
white folks use(d) it regularly.
