I think it could be useful, but you'd have to be careful not to
overgeneralize, as was mentioned by several folks when the idea of
a list of "period" foods came up here recently.

Whether you bought or made would depend a lot upon whether you were
located on a manor or in a town or city, whether the year was 800AD or
1200AD or 1599AD and possibly what country or region you were in.
