They are both significant in terms of this specific question.  The recipe 
appears in Madeleine Cosman's book, "Medieval Holidays and 
Festivals".  Her area of specialization (and the focus of the book) is 
medieval England.  Therefore, if this *is* a period recipe, it is 
presumably an English recipe.  And if it is an English recipe, it is most 
likely from the latter part of the SCA period, when cucumbers were more 
widely available in England.

I am sure that Lady Rachel would be delighted to discover that the 
recipe is documentably 12th-century Persian or 14th-century Italian or 
or 10th century Norse or anything else within the SCA's scope.  But 
under the circumstances, it seems to me that the recipe is either late-
period English, or 20th-century Medievaloid.
