Actually, I am doing this (even tho I know blueberries ain't period
because I have access to blue berries;-)

I have used the recipe from Medieval Kitchen (Redon) for Pumpkin pie.
In the recipe it specifies laying pieces of pastry on the top of the
pie. For those interested, the Barony of Politarchopolis (basically
the Australian Capital Territory where the Commonwealth houses of
Parliament are located ;-) has a device which has a white Burley
Griffon on a field of red tape with 2 white stripes either side.
Sooooooooo, I have used 2 pieces of pastry either side of the pie, cut
out a pastry griffon shape by hand and laid it on the exposed
pumpkin. Although the pumpkin has turned out a more orange colour
then red, I figured that was close enough <g>

I also have had made a number of pottery stamps made up with a series
of celtic & heraldic animals made up. I am using these to denote the
types of meat in the various pies & quiches etc!

Lorix (a verrrrry tired Lorix whose husband just got hospitalised a
couple of days ago & is 'relaxing' by checking a multitude of e-mails,
alas Gryff is very sick and will probably not be making it out of
hospital before the Midwinter event 'we' are running in 3 weeks time)
