I agree. I've been to two of these medieval-theme restaurants, including the
Medieval Times in Dallas, as well as been involved for a few years in a local
Madrigal Dinner. While none of these theme dinners strive for authenticity
(the menu at the madrigal dinners I worked were just about as modern as I
could imagine without incorporating hamburgers, and I am NOT going into the
garb...) They were very entertaining and helped me develop my interest in
Historical re-creation...
They're fun things that emphasize the more archetypical motifs associated
with history, the romance and chivalry aspects that are so familiar in
popular culture, along with the exciting adrenaline oriented stuff so popular
these days...
I found the huge set up in Dallas with all of the horses and errors actually
quite funny. I was sitting next to my fighting expert friend(a knight in a
past life, we're told) who obsessed about the inaccurate fighting styles
while we cheered along with our sections Knight and I mused over the
likelihood of Fog machines and laser lighting being available to a medieval
court...
I'll stop rambling now. It's 730 AM and I need sleep.
