SC - Enough with the endless Trimaris email!!!!!

I applaud your decision, Mistress Aldyth. It is my belief that if I, as a
potential feaster, have a problem with a feast, it is up to me to make
alternate arrangements.

For example, I do not buy feasts containing non-period foods, because I
believe that a non-period feast is at odds with the scope and focus of the
Society. If the feast is to be non-period, I will either plan to eat out
(Wallaby-Darneds, here I come!), or bring an off-board feast (with the help
of a few friends - "Oh my gawd, there won't be enough food!"). It's OK. I
just can't deal with potatoes, zucchini, and chocolate in a "period" feast,
and that's *my* problem. Now, I *love* all those things, but I am perfectly
content doing without for a day or a weekend. There are so many yummy dishes
that *are* period that I don't see much reason for serving non-period foods.

I think my attitude is so much more graceful than buying a feast and then
complaining about it. If the feast wasn't period the last time you went to
the Shire of the Swimming Pigs, why would you expect it to be the next time?
Exert some initiative and ask questions. In Mistress Aldyth's experience,
they knew the format of the feast, and made other arrangements.

Isn't it easier/less painful to make yourself happy, than to permit yourself
to be miserable?

In the Trimaris matter, I have a similar response - If what Her Highness
said offends you, opt not to cook feasts for the reign, and politely inform
HH exactly why. Then cook for people who *do* appreciate your work and
artistry. Perhaps the Baron needs a cook, maybe your household potlucks
together to non-period feasts. Enter A&S competitions and then offer the
leftovers for lunch or dinner. Feed the Crown lunch or offer the luncheon
board for the event if you feel the need to educate. Do smaller events, and
publish a booklet that states "My intention is to show that period food is
*good*" - which is what my friend Arwen did. And it *was* good!

Be creative. Take responsibility for your own contentment.
