In the kitchens of Trimaris that I've helped cook in, the foods
_bought_with_SCA_funds_ and available to High Table are the same as for the
populace, just presented differently (ie, silver trays, garnished, etc). A
typical example is fresh-baked bread... High table gets the same bread, the
dough made at the same time... but while the populace is getting the
whatever loaf style is being used (rectangular, round, beehive, french) I
try to take the time to do a braided ring or something "prettier" for the
high table presentation.

Making special shapes of bread for high-table is also a good occupation for
children helping in the kitchen!

Now, the Royal retainers usually bring the beverage of choice for High
Table, and sometimes make special dishes for high table. So do other
individuals wanting to do something nice for the royals, or show off. But
in the cases that I have personally witnessed, these dishes were paid for
with the individual's money.

Sincerely,

Jehanne
