Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have the most recent hard copy of the 
Miscellany, but I only got the recipe section, that could be why I can't find 
it. 

I have been working on a recipe derived from an early 19th C source, and it 
includes oats, milk, eggs and sugar. Another source is simply oats and water. 

When I did the oats (steel cut) and water recipe, well, I thought they left 
alot to be desired. I am going to take your advise to mill the oats further 
and then retry them. It seems as well, that it wouldn't be unreasonable to 
add other ingredients (barring baking soda) if cooking them for high table 
during a medieval feast. 

I wanted to include an oat dish and this is the one. It is mentioned that 
these cakes go well with beef (can't seem to find my source at the moment) so 
that's where they're going.
