I don't know the URL of the archives, which as I recall is basically the
digests available for ftp. I'm sure someone has this information, though.

My comment on anti-period fascisti (which I probably shouldn't have
made, but it's an interesting comment on what pushes people's buttons
and what doesn't) was in connection with Rayne's question on how to get
people to eat period food, and the possibility that menus in simple,
more-or-less modern terms might help. What I said, in essence, was that
if you look around and take note of what you see, you'll probably find
more people walking around badmouthing people for being extremely
authentic than for being not authentic enough. The popular image of
Authenticity Police going around telling people they shouldn't do or
wear or eat such-and-such because it isn't "period" seems to give way in
reality to people going around telling people they shouldn't eat
medieval food because it's period and period food sucks. In the past
eighteen years or so, I think I've seen more intimidation tactics used
to sway people away from authenticity than toward it.
