Unto the Gathered Cooks does Gwynydd send the following:

Ah, so what you call "confectioner's sugar" is what we call "icing mixture" - a blend of icing sugar and corn flour (as we call it). It is what I use to coat my Turkish Delight - I don't see the point in doing the mixing myself when I can buy it so easily! (Mind you, I wonder who uses it to make icing - mine always fails if I do!)

I was at the supermarket today and happened to look (actually, went out of my way to look) at the sugar section. First surprise - I found both the "or" and the "er" endings for castor sugar. I did find demera (? spelling) sugar which the packet suggested was sugar with some of the molasses left in making it particularly good for coffee (hmmmm - I have some doubts here). I also found coffee crystals which I absolutely adore - in or out of coffee!

Gwynydd (the seriously sweet-toothed)
