It is ultra heat treated (UHT milk)and then packaged in containers lined with some sort of foil so that it's shelf-life is seriously extended.  I buy it instead of fresh milk because 1) it works out about 30 cents cheaper per litre if it is on special (which often happens) and 2) because it means there is always milk in the house.  I buy it in lots of about 12.  also, I found that, no matter how hard I tried, I could never seem to put milk money aside so we would run out of milk by the end of the fortnight.
