I've bought them in Chinese and Philippino markets. I think they were 
given an Asian name in the market, and not long after i discovered 
that they were loofas (this was in the 70's in LA). And i bought them 
in Indonesia, too, although i can't remember the name right now.

Around here, i can get them in some of the "better" supermarkets (NOT Safeway).
