Sorry for the delay, I had to get the recipe we worked out while doing it up
from a friend. I just make the stuff, I don't use a recipe <G>. But I did do
it once and someone else made notes, and here's what they wrote.

" Bruise Butter

    1 1/2 C Calendula flowers (pot marigold)
1- 8 oz. jar pure lanolin (anhydros)
    6 oz. coconut oil
    1/4-1/2 C. comfrey

Put all ingredients in a covered cassarole. Bake in oven at 375 for about an
hour. Strain through a strainer lined with cheese cloth into containers.
Cool and label. (This can be done on top of the stove, but it burns easily
and the odor is powerful) Oven method is easier and avoids burning."

In actuality, I find that the herbs do take on a burned look in the oven
method, but it works anyway. I've also taken to adding three or four whole
cloves to deal with the smell, which some people find unpleasant. The
ointment that comes out sometimes is a bit soft ... in which case I remelt it
and add a few teaspoons of beeswax.

When you use it, it sits on top of the skin for awhile, and then, when you
look away, it soaks right into the skin. Several people here swear by it. Me?
I just use it.
