I raised your question to a certain lady here in fair Sternfeld, Lady
Megan de Grinstead, who is well known in the MK for her gardening lore.
(many would call her an herbalist,BUT she is really a Gardener!!,
couldn't care less what happens after a plant leaves the ground!)

At any rate, Megan said that according to your area, yes 55 days is
from germination to ripation. This is af course dependent on soil
conditions and water. She has raised many old varities of vegetables,
especially those from Eurasia that would be period, If they are not
extinct like so many old varities have become!!) Cucuccinii/Calabaza
like to have about a 1/2 gl of water per day,BUT do not like to "have
their feet wet" all the time, so give it to them as they absorb it but
no more than that!!
You want the soil to be fairly sandy loam with a light layer of
dressing material over the top, do not allow the fruit to rest on an
overly hard surface as it will develope a flat side there and may be
vulnerable to pests. Try to arrange for a trellis of sorts and slings to
rest the developing fruit in.
