Ras:

For some reason you do this frequently- write (private) in the heading of
the posting, and don't change the address, and wind up posting an
inflamatory message publicly. What's even worse. is every time you do it,
you show yourself to be two-faced- in other words, you say things privately
and nastily that you try not to say publicly. That's fine, but your
passionate goal, as you have expressed many many times, is to become a
Laurel, a Peer of the Society, and for all that you refuse to understand it,
Peerage is much more than being good at something, be it an Art or Science,
Service, or Heavy Weapons.

To become a Royal Peer, you only have to win a few fights, or be consort to
someone who has. To become any other flavor of Peer, you have to be elected
to that station by others who are already there. Ras, until you clean up
your attitude, you flat ain't gonna get there. Yes, in a sense, it's a
popularity contest, but whether it's right or wrong, IT IS, no matter how
hard you try to argue against it. While you're at it, repeal the Law of
Gravity- I have no doubt you'll have just as much success.

Last fall I withdrew my favor from you for precisely the same reason. You
said one thing to my face, and another behind my back. I still love you, my
friend, and I care about you, but I flat don't trust you. You have now done
exactly the same sort of thing to Allison, who is a Peer in a Kingdom where
you're aspiring to Peerage. Even if she forgives you, do you really think
that those who know her are going to forget that you called a very
hard-working and honorable Lady a thief? Something like that gets around,
not just to those of us on Cook's List, as the recent, um, "discussion" with
Trimaris proves. Do you really think that the difficulties you had finding
an apprenticeship were just bad luck or because you have (had) red hair or
something?

Ras, I, and others, really care about you, and wish you to attain the goals
you've set for yourself. We would be remiss if we didn't do everything we
could to help you attain them, and in this case, it means trying to reason
with you. Please listen.
