It could be that they just want it to "appear" medieval....

Our local group has done a demo for Prevent Child Abuse, (Knight of the 
Child) for a couple of years.  They hold the "feast" at a local restaurant 
and last year, they served mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, fried chicken or 
pork chops.  The fundraiser also featured no silverware, as they thought 
medieval man ate without utensils.  Don't feel bad.  And, don't feel really 
compelled to make them do something period.  They are trying to have fun.  
Just clueless fun, and it wrankles those purists among us.
