This day does Lady Phillipa Seton greet and commend Lady ' Lainie,

Thank you gracious Lady for pointing out to Master Siegfried Heydrich that
hiding ingredients in a dish is not a chivilrous thing to do.
I am a practicing Jew. I am no longer orthodox in my lifestyle, but I
almost lost my breakfast cereal as I was reading this post.

I would not take kindly to being fed foods that are against my beliefs. When
I eat a feast I assume that the cooks will "take care of the dinners" in a
chivilrous manner and not cause them, as you say, "psychic pain." The eating
of life-blood is so disgusting to me that I feel traumatized just sitting
here!

PLEASE people, let the populace know ALL the ingredients in a dish. Let
THEM make the decision to eat something or not. And here we step into the
area of allergies, If you cause a person to eat an ingredient that makes
them sick for days afterward.. Is it really worth it, just to get them to
try something new? Doesn't that person have the right to say "no thanks, I
don't want to risk being sick for days afterward." What right does any cook
have to endanger a feaster.
I know what I am talking about!! As a person with ulserative collitis, I
have to be very, very careful what I eat. I need to know EXACTLY what is in a
dish and how it was prepared or I run the risk of becoming VERY sick.

So, PLEASE! Try gentle persuasion and tiny portions of something new when
trying to get people to try new things. Hiding ingredints just isn't right!!
respectfully,
Phillipa Seton

This was, while maybe cute and effective and a way to get people to eat
something new, A REALLY BAD IDEA. Had it occurred to you that you might
have violated someones dietary or religious proscriptions? While I find
the 'hiding' of ingredients just a little rude if you are trying to get
around picky eaters, sometimes ingredients can be lethal. Or in the case
of blood products and a practicing Jew, you have just caused them some
considerable psychic agony. Do you _really_ want to treat you fellow
SCAdians like this? While I understand the motivations that might lead
to this, I would hope that you don't do it again. PLEASE- always label
ingredients. For your safety and the confort and safety of your diners.!
