I have so many food restrictions that I would have to limit myself to the 
same 3 foodstuffs if I did not do some improvising!! (borrr--ing!) My altered 
recipes are NEVER presented as the medieval "real thing".  In fact  I always 
post the original recipe in the beginning of my post. I try as much as I can 
to start out with the original recipe, redaction, my changes & explanations 
of my changes.

I would be sad indeed if I could never have another taste of a cream soup!

 Wouldn't it make more sense to  find period recipes that are 
 consistent with those restrictions instead of altering ones that 
 aren't? That way the people in question can have a considerably more 
 medieval experience.
 
 Concern about the health consequences of food is a very period 
 attitude, and combining that with the religious restrictions results 
 in a pretty wide range of recipes. Vegetarian recipes, in particular, 
 are common in the surviving cookbooks.
