APPLESAUCE SURPRISE CAKE

  1/2 cup butter
  1 1/2 cup sugar
  3 eggs
  2 cups sifted flour
  1 tsp. baking soda
  1 tsp. cinnamon
  1/2 tsp. salt
  1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  1/2 tsp. cloves
  1 1/2 cups applesauce
  1 cup chopped, dried earthworms
  1/2 cup chopped nuts

  To prepare earthworms, chop coarsely and spread on
  Teflon cookie sheet. Place in 200°F. oven for 15 minutes,
  remove and let cool, Meanwhile, cream butter and sugar, add
  eggs. Sift together the dry ingredients and add to egg mixture.
  Add applesauce, earthworms, nuts and mix well. Pour into a
  well-greased 10 inch tube or Bundt pan. Bake at 325°
  for 50 minutes.
