It also might mean the literal sense. That is, either serve the cawdelle on 
the side as a sauce (most likely interpretation, IMO, or serve the cawdell 
with the blawmange  as a beverage (unlikely, IMO).  I do not feel that there 
is any indication that the cawdelle is to be served after the blawmange is 
removed. A careful reading of the text clearly shows that it is to be severed 
at the same time.
