SC - Acid Drops and Kendall Mint Cake

Unto the Gathered Cooks does Gwynydd send Greetings:

While we were out at the local Market on Saturday, we stopped in at a second
hand shop (which has the most amazing range of junk!  I was almost tempted
by the heavy glass and china jelly moulds).  My Lady very kindly bought me a
book of confectionery recipes (under the not so onerous condition that I
make some of the sweets for her - it has acid drops and Kendal mint cake!
MMMM).

We also saw a book called "Food in Civilisation" by Carson Ritchie.  It is a
history of food and contains no recipes as far as I could see.  Still, it
looked interesting, with a largish section on Medieval cooking.  The
question is has anyone on the List seen this book and can anyone recommend
(or suggest that I avoid) it?
