Some of the women here are know to carry long, heavy pointy things.

Yes, I have a wonderful new pointy thing. We picked up the re-worked
version of my Christmas present last weekend, my 9"+ hand-made damascus
steel chef's knife. Sweet! It has a couple of details in 24k gold (a
cherry blossom near the hilt is his maker's mark, and a thin gold band
around the copper fitting) and a Vera wood handle, which will turn olive
green with time, it is already quite beautiful. It was made by Don Fogg,
a master knifesmith, who usually does catanas and show blades. The only
reason he took the commission from my lord is because he was intrigued
with the idea that someone would actually use one of his blades, and not
display it on the wall. Because of that, when I took the first one back
(he did not have the shape quite right, it was more of a Bowie knife) he
was perfectly willing to MAKE ANOTHER ONE (!) to get it right. This one
is not quite a standard chef's knife (we had him trace a Henkle, but he
says he's more geared toward artistic look and feel than utility, and
that it was a good exercise for him to have to make a tool) and he said
he would make another one, but this one works just fine. He is making
me a paring knife to match it. And yes, I'll be bringing it (maybe them)
to Pennsic to show it off.
I don't know if I'll go floating around on my air mattresses with
nothing but my knife anytime soon (I still can't figure out how she keeps
knives on an air mattress, anyway!) but it isn't going too far out of my
sight!
Ah, ya gotta love a man who thinks the best presents are sharp ones!
