One more comment on this....
It's exactly THAT kind of attitude which turns people away from the SCA to 
begin with, and makes people think it is bizzarre.  I don't know of too many 
rocket clubs or kite clubs who would snub somebody simply because all they 
want to do is fly rockets or kites.  And I certainly hope the "party animal" 
comment was a general one, and not directed at anyone in particular.
