Greetings,

Although I am very new to the list...8^), I'm a little older than some and
remember my grandparents had a "springhouse" on their farm.  Inside its
thick, rock walls, the spring kept it cool and butter, milk and cream were
stored there.  Another method made use of a well with a heavy cover and
shelves built around the sides to store perishables.
