I'm very late on my mail, so apologies if someone else mentioned this...  wasn't there an eating utensil used somewhat later (see "Owl and the Pussycat") called a 'runcible spoon' which had three tines, the third one sort of a pseudo-spoon, for eating things like wet suckets and ice-cream cake...
You gotta get room in the Rock, don't you see....
