The question of peanuts I can't answer. Actually, I am not sure that the
recipe really means raw peanuts in the way that has been used previously on
this list, just not roasted or fried. I don't think that it would matter
one way or the other. The same goes for salted peanuts - unless you are
watching your salt intake.

The original recipe has both the wheatgerm and nutritional yeast as
optional. I meant that it is nonsense to omit them (good food value - and
the taste is fine).

My advice on this one is to be very careful. I originally gave this recipe
in response to a comment about burning out blender motors! I no longer make
these burgers because it destroyed both my blender and that of my best
friend! (BTW, if anyone has any ideas about a utensil which will not die
from grinding these hard beans - and soy beans are _very_ hard - I would
love the advice!)

Yes - just different terminology.

Oh yes! According to my sources, kidney beans need to be boiled fast for 10
minutes at least to destroy the toxins! I don't know how bad these toxins
are, but you should have heard me warning a group of school kids not to eat
the kidney beans I had given them for game counters!

This recipe will not cut down your protein intake. I haven't sat down with
my copy of "Diet for a Small Planet" to work it out, but my feeling is that
the proteins in this recipe are very well balanced and thus very accessible
to your body. Do you actually want to cut down on protein or did you mean
meat? If you want good vegetarian sources of protein, I am more than happy
to share a few of my favourite recipes with you (or with anyone else who is
interested!).

Gwynydd
(BTW, in an attempt to ward off some critisims of my use of "Diet for a
Small Planet" let me just say that I do know that the author of "Small
Planet" has said that she overstated the amount of protein the human body
needs!)
