Hi y'all

(from southern AnTir, you know;-)

First the good news.

Vesta-Babe the Wonder student, who is a sergeant, undertook the Ithrotir
competeition at the direct command of the Baroness. Vesta is Roman.
Ithrotir is not. She ranted and raved and whined and snivelled and cried
on my shoulder, then raided my library, got some bibliography, and went
to work. She won two of the divisions, and came in second for the
overall, losing first by ONE POINT. I just about bust I was so proud.

I have a new baby student, Sgt. Laurence of Damascus, one of my
long-term buds and hangers-on, who wants more formal training in 'Norman
stuff'. First, training in remembering Important Stuff, like not leaving
the vows for the ceremony at home on your hard drive (his, that is). We
winged it and it was ok. Now Vesta has a little brother to beat up.

And the Really Smokin' news- my oldest daughter Rotrude worked on
Ithrotir entries for most of the past year, even with all the
weirdnesses in our lives. She is almost 16, and for the first time they
had a teen division (an over-due and wonderful idea), so she entered it
and won two divisions. But they had no costume contest, and she'd spent
nearly a year working on her new Frankish gown. So she asked the
Ithrotir head what to do, was told to enter it where she wanted (they
know her). So she entered it (with something like 4 pages of
documentation) and her new shoes in the Adult division....

And SHE WON! She beat the adults! I'm still doing the happy dance, and
she has a new length of silk of her very own... heh heh heh... 'Lainie
the Stealth Artisan rules through her minions...

Now the question... (thought I'd never get to it?)

I made Bukkenade Saturday night. Been a couple of years since I've done
it, and I don't know what I did wrong. Instead of thinkening the broth
into sauce, the eggs shredded and it looked like eggdrop soup. It was
very thin and I don't remember what I might have done different. Any
ideas? I was very frustrated.

The Crust of Tame Creatures came out nearly perfect and the White Torta
was sublime (fortunately I had a sweetie there to beat the egg whites
while I worked on other things!).

la la la... now I have to try and get all that pollen out of my hair
(sniff-achoooo!)

'Lainie
