Actually evaporative cooling as used in arid regions has a very long
history. This is the process of allowing evaporation to cool unfired clay
jugs of water, water bags that were covered with a dampened cloth or which
were of a canvas which allowed a small amount of fluid to sweat through
them. Additionally use was made of naturally cool waters flowing from
springs and streams flowing out of glaciers and snow fields.
