Isinglass is indeed an all purpose term as I have heard mica when split into
very thin transparent sheets and used much as one would use glass referred
to as isinglass.  As a side note does anyone remember the line in the song
"A Surrey With Fringe on Top"  it had "isinglass windows that rolled right
down in case of a change in the weather".  Perhaps someone with more time,
I'm packing to go to coronation, might wish to check the OED.
