It depends. Do you want deerhide or deer skin? Naturally the brain of any 
animal contains just enough brain to tan the hide of the animal. Simple rub 
the brain over the entire inner surface of the skin until it is well covered 
and the brain has been used up. roll it into a tight roll. Bury it and leave 
it for the winter. In the spring dig it up pull or scrape off the hair. Rinse 
thoroughly stretch and pull it over a hide stump. Stretch and hang to dry. 
When it is dry soften by puling it over the hide stump until pliable or chew 
until softened.
